Positive lighting research emerged from the experience as a designer within the manufacturing industry and the academic field. Willing to integrate knowledge and expertise from different fields, this project is an opportunity to enhance change in the lighting industry for human and environmental health.

Starting from the impact of individual's self-awareness on the decision making process, I explore the opportunities of collaborative work, while adopting the cradle to cradle design concept to embrace industrial and social change. All through the system's view of life, the thinking behind the research.

How can the lighting industry be a positive change maker in western societies?

Self-awareness
Self-awareness

By the understanding of ourselves as living beings in a constant process of change, where body and mind are continuously interacting. The human being starts to recognise its nature and becomes aware of its own existence, its impact in the world, and the meaning of its own life.

Whenever a human practices self awareness, it's consciousness evolves; and with a higher level of consciousness, the human being encounters new ways of communication, interaction, and creation. Therefore, supporting the development of self-awareness is of paramount importance for the creation of a healthy lighting industry.

Embracing healthy transformation in the lighting industry, requieres interdisciplinary and collaborative teams. In order to create a product, service, or process that responds to our natural needs as living social beings, a unifying approach lead by a diverse group of people and their own life perspectives is necessary.

In that sense, an integrative research either within or without the lighting industry, must take place. Where conversations around the influence of light in ecosystems, social systems, and human health, should give a broader vision of the role that the lighting industry plays in civil societies and it's ability to embrace life.

The vision of leaving a positive footprint in everything we create, use, and consume, emerges from the cradle to cradle design concept. A concept that goes beyond circular processes, focusing in the production of nutrients for the industry and the environment.

The cradle to cradle concept fosters healthy emissions, diversity, and the use of renewable energies. It offers a tangible solution for the lighting industry transformation.

This is the core way of thinking to advocate integrative actions. Everything in life is a system and is embedded in a system. Whenever the dynamics of a system become recognisable, the understanding of it becomes clearer and clearer. Its networks of relationships become fundamental for a transition process, where communication abilities and individuals freedom are constantly changing characteristics that nurture that network.

The systems view of life, is a perspective that allows the emergence of solutions that actually correspond a system and its individual's needs.
